Intrepid DMC India have been announced as the winners of the Women Empowerment Initiative category at the 2018 PATA & Gold Award this week.
Awarded for an ongoing project to recruiting and train female tour leaders, General Manager Pravin Tamang says his team is honoured to be recognised for this initiative.
"In India, tour leading is viewed as an 'unsuitable' career for women as it requires them to be away from home," says Pravin. "We felt it was important to challenge the status quo, and encourage women to train as a leader with us. Tour leading is a rewarding career in itself, but it can also be a great entry point for different roles within the travel industry."
Since beginning a highly targeted recruitment drive encouraging women to apply for the tour leading positions, Intrepid DMC India now has the largest number of female tour leaders of any inbound tour operator in India.
